We will end at a 6^th generation ranch winery that has stayed with the old traditions of grape stomping, and working the land with draft horses and machinery from days gone by. We are looking forward to our long planned excursion to the Ronald Reagan Library. This will be a great experience especially since the AIR FORCE ONE pavilion has been added as well as an added attraction and you will be able to see the MAGNA CARTA which is on loan from a cathedral in London till June. If you have never been to the Library or even if you have, it's a definite must for you to go. You don't have to worry about lunch as the Library has a number of restaurants on the premises.

The Library is about 100 easy driving miles from Orange County mostly on freeways. Plan to arrive there by 10:00 AM for the tour. There is a $12.00 entrance fee ($9.00 for seniors), An audio rental tour is additional. There is plenty of free parking. No reservations required but I would like to get some idea who is coming. Learn about BLUETEC® Mercedes-Benz Innovative Diesel Technology

At the January 2008 Mercedes-Benz Dinner Meeting, which will be held on January 17th at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim, 18405 Sanderson Ave, we will be honored to have two speakers. They will be talking about the new Mercedes-Benz BLUETEC® Diesel. First is Captain Ed Burns, USMC, who ordered his car and took special delivery in Scottsdale, Arizona May 2007. The second speaker will be Gerhard Schnuerer who owns a E320 BLUETEC Special, one of two built for the Paris to Beijing rally. Gerhard drove his car on the 1st leg of the rally from Paris to St. Petersburg. The car is equipped with all the special navigation and tracking systems.

BLUETEC is a new diesel technology patented by Mercedes-Benz and received the Green Car Award for the cleanest diesel in the world. BLUETEC Diesels are now selling in 45 of the 50 States, but not yet in California. However, one may be leased from your local Mercedes-Benz dealer for 24 months or 24,000 miles. Mercedes must take the cars back after the 2-year period toremain in compliance with California laws. Local Mercedes-Benz dealers will begin selling the car starting this next model year according to information we’ve received.

This should be a very interesting presentation as little is known about the new BLUETEC Diesel models. So please, send in your checks for reservations payable to MBCA-Orange County Section for $30.00 per person.

For three wonderful days some of the world’s finest cars and their owners will gather at the
Historic El Rancho Lodge, at 1330 E. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, CA 92264 for the 2007 OCMB Star Trek. The club has reserved the entire lodge for this fantastic event. Saturday 27th at 9:00 AM enjoy a Gymkhana and test your driving skills followed by a relaxing auto rallye. I am the proud owner of a mint condition 1972 280 SEL Mercedes Benz (2 more photos, below) with only 115,000 miles on it. I bought it in 1992 from my grandparents, who were the original owners. I have been trying to "keep it in the family" but the car is a classic show car and it is not practical for me to keep it here in San Diego.

I have already received an offer from a local showroom of exotic cars, and my friends have urged me to sell it on eBay or Autotrader. But if possible, I would like to place the car with "someone who cares about" and not just any random buyer. Do you think that anyone in the MBCAOC would be interested in purchasing it? If so, I can send a lot more photos and information on the car.

RALLY: Let's Do Highway 80

It’s a car rally and poker run on old historic Highway 80 in San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Join other Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts for history and information along old Highway 80. We’ll start in east San Diego County and drive as much of historic U.S. 80 as possible with interesting stops along the way to pick up your poker cards.

We’ll stay over night at the Barbara Worth Resort, in Holtville, where we will have an awards dinner. All rooms have a mini refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee makers. They come with either one king or two queen beds, and most face the beautiful 18 hole PGA championship golf course. There’s also a lovely swimming pool to enjoy.

Finally, we’ll enjoy a scrumptious breakfast on Sunday. After that, we’ll be on our way home. You can stay an extra day to play a round of golf, or just relax. It is anticipated that the cost of this event will be about $60 per person, plus the cost of the room—only $78 plus tax for a double, bringing the total per couple or the rally, dinner, overnight stay, and breakfast to approximately $200.
